Community Support St Marys Band Club has a long standing tradition and reputation of providing support to our local community. The Club actively participates in the Club Grants Scheme (formerly known as the Community Development Support Expenditure (CDSE)) - a partnership between local registered clubs, the Department of Community Services, Penrith City Council and the community.
The following organisations and projects were selected for allocation of Category 1 funding for the 2011/2012 year as per The Penrith Local Government Area Club Grants Scheme (PLGACGS) Committee's terms of reference:
The Salvation Army (New South Wales) Property Trust operating as The Salvation Army Youthlink - Cafe Horizons St Marys $15,000 Café Horizons is an operational training Cafe providing life skills and accredited hospitality training, in a supported, hands-on, enterprise environment, to disadvantaged young people 15-24 years of age who have multiple barriers to gaining employment and find it difficult to access and remain in traditional education and vocational training options. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bridging the Gap Sydney West Incorporated - Youth Employment Project $8,352
Students attend a one day workshop designed to improve job seeking and interview skill. Students require computers to develop and print resumes and to search the web for employment opportunities.

For Penrith/St Marys youth this is a particularly pressing need. The “Job Club” program builds on the work of the local high school support units and helps prevent students leaving school and embarking upon a course that frequently leads to welfare dependency. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Life Changing Experiences Foundation Ltd - The SISTER2sister Program $18,684 The SISTER2sister Program is a unique 12-month mentoring & risk management program designed to empower "at risk" teenage girls to turn their troubled lives around. Each girl is matched with a stable role model who is a professional business/corporate woman from the community. Big Sisters provide support, guidance and inspiration. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ St Marys Combined Pensioners & Superannuants (CPSA) - Pensioners Day Trips $18,000 For the supply of bus and driver to take aged members on weekly outings ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Child Flight Inc. - Telstra Child Flight helicopter retrieval of two critically ill Penrith children $13,500 The 'project' is two emergency helicopter retrievals of two critically children or newborn babies by Child Flight helicopter from Nepean hospital to one of only 10 hospitals in NSW or the ACT with the highest level of intensive care facilities and expertise needed to save their lives. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ St Anthony's Family Care - Parents as Teachers (PAT) $4,000 Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an early childhood family education and support program that begins prenatally and continues until a child turns three years. Refugee and migrant parents are supported by a professional parent educator and where required a bilingual support worker to learn how to nurture their child's development. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Grandmothers Cottage - Participation in fundraising walk $100 Aims to provide a safe refuge for children requiring crisis, emergency care and accommodation in a warm and loving environment.
